RMI Corporation and Dolby Labs Announce Collaboration
RMI CORPORATION IMPLEMENTS DOLBY MOBILE TECHOLOLGY ON ALCHEMY PLATFORM TO
ENHANCE MOBILE ENTERTAINMENT
Barcelona, Spain, February 11, 2008 — RMI Corporation, a leading supplier of Processor Based Solutions for networking, communications and consumer applications, and Dolby Laboratories, Inc. (NYSE:DLB), today announced an agreement to integrate Dolby® Mobile, a portfolio of audio enhancement technologies which delivers rich, vibrant audio and surround sound, into RMI’s Alchemy Au1200 Processor Family for portable media players to enhance the entertainment experience on portable media players. Both Dolby Mobile and RMI’s Processors will be demonstrated this week as part of the Mobile World Congress at stands 2.1B37 in Hall 2 and 7 C62 in Hall 7 in Barcelona, Spain.
“We're thrilled to have RMI join us as the first integrated circuit licensee for portable media player applications,” said Craig Eggers, senior partner marketing manager, Dolby Laboratories. “Together we’re looking forward to showing people just how great music, movies and televisions can sound on these devices.”
The relationship between Dolby Laboratories and RMI Corporation began with the integration of Dolby Digital technology in RMI’s software platform. Today’s announcement makes both Dolby Mobile and Dolby Digital available in the future as part of the RMI Alchemy™ Au1200 Processor Family Software Development Kits (SDK).
Dolby Mobile complements the Au1250 Processor’s exceptional video decode performance to deliver enhanced audio and surround sound experiences from portable media players. And, because Dolby Mobile enhances the listening experience from almost any of the Au1250 Processor’s supported video formats, consumers can take advantage of the enhanced audio processing whether they are watching their favorite movie, television program or just listening to music.
“We have had a long-standing relationship with Dolby Laboratories and are delighted to be the first silicon licensee to roll-out Dolby Mobile for portable media players,” said Ed White, manager, business development, Alchemy Solutions at RMI Corp. “Because Dolby Mobile can deliver enhanced entertainment experiences, the RMI Alchemy Au1200 Processor Family is a compelling solution for portable media player customers looking to drive innovation and differentiate their products in the market.”
RMI’s Au1200 Processor Family meets the needs of consumer media applications by offering a high-performance, low-power processor capable of delivering a rich multi-media experience to end users under a 1/2 watt (450mW). The Au1200 Processor Family consists of the Au1200, the Au1210 and the Au1250, media processors targeted for full-featured Portable Media Players, Personal Navigation Devices (PND) and MobileTV. The RMI Alchemy product line provides system designers an easy-to-use, simple solution to create full-featured consumer solutions with greatly reduced design cycle times.
